International Baccalaureate

This is an internationally recognised two year, pre-university course, which is becoming increasingly welcomed by UK Universities. There are core skills (such as essay writing, theory of knowledge, creativity, action and service to the community) combined with six academic subjects. Three subjects are taken to standard level and three to higher level. The IB Diploma also provides students with an international perspective and takes an investigative approach to learning.

Students who do not reach the Diploma pass standard are still credited with certification in their individual subjects, so this is rather similar to students who do not gain pass grades in all of their 'A' levels. Universities are often interested in what a student achieves in individual subjects as well as whether the whole Diploma is obtained.
