Personal Issues

Insurance for Personal Possessions

Many institutions have agreements with large insurance companies that will provide insurance for students against loss of or damage to possessions.

Although standard policies are usually in force, covering the most likely items for students in this age group, a quote for more comprehensive cover can usually be obtained on request.

You are strongly advised to consider taking out an insurance policy as items such as laptop computers, mobile phones, travel tickets, books, school uniform, jewellery, cameras, money do go missing from time to time.

Quotes can be provided by OPDS on request.

Pastoral Care

Recognizing that students are away from home and vulnerable to a wide variety of trauma and stress, institutions usually provide staff with the specific responsibility to counsel and advise them on a wide range of personal issues.

During term time students are always advised to first report such feelings to their Housemaster / Housemistress so that a better understanding of their behaviour can be gained.

OPDS staff are available at all times for such discussions as these sometimes may relate to cultural issues.

Organized Social Events

From time to time, OPDS organizes social events and sightseeing trips for small groups of students during weekends and holiday times from college.

Students are encouraged to attend, wherever possible, as we believe this will lead them to appreciate many cultural issues that they would otherwise perhaps not have experienced.

These non-compulsory events are charged extra and students are notified well in advance so they can plan to attend.
